2008 OALA Winter Conference set for February 9 at WOU Print E-mail

Keynote speakers Hector Montenegro, superintendent of Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Texas, and George Russell, superintendent of Eugene School District, highlight the 2008 Oregon Association of Latino Administrators Winter Conference, set for Saturday, February 9 at Western Oregon University. 

The theme of the conference is "The Leadership Imperative -- Educating Our Latino Children with Equity and Excellence."  The schedule for the conference includes OALA President Mario Alba's welcome, the keynote speakers, more than a dozen breakout sessions and closing remarks from OALA Vice President Carlos Lopez.

Breakout sessions include:

  • The Exit Files: Recruitment, Retention and Promotion of a Diverse Workforce
  • Closing the Achievement Gap at the High School Level
  • Diversification of the School Leadership Force
  • Diverse Teachers: Changing the Way You See the World
  • From Probrecitos to Possibilities: Leadership for an Asset Mentality
