Administrators, teachers discuss high school reform Print E-mail

by Bill Beck, Director of Professional Developmentbreaking-ranks-5

Fifty-seven administrators and teacher leaders, representing 14 districts, gathered in Wilsonville for two days of training in Breaking Ranks II May 17-18.  The mini-conference, sponsored by COSA, featured Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) trainers Erin McGary-Hamilton and Katherine Luers.

McGary-Hamilton and Luers did an outstanding job of leading the participants through activities designed to assist in the change process, connect staff and students, provide for on-going professional development, and creating small learning communities.

Participants were actively involved in sharing among districts and taking notes on how other schools approached similar challenges.  Opportunities for networking were supported and, as a result, teachers and administrators from Hermiston to North Bend will continue to share ideas and seek solutions from one-an-other.breaking-ranks-6

COSA will conduct a survey of secondary and middle school administrators regarding the potential for offering additional Breaking Ranks II training sessions during the 2006-07 school year.  For further information, contact Bill Beck.
