COSA announces leadership program for new administrators Print E-mail

COSA will initiate a statewide leadership program for new superintendents and principals later this month, COSA Director of Professional Development Colin Cameron announced this week.  The program will be co-sponsored by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) for the 2006-2007 school year.

The initial seminar will be held October 30 at the Viticulture Center, just  west of Salem.  Subsequent activities will take place during the December Oregon School Law Conference, the January OASSA/OESPA Winter Conference, the February OASE/OACOA Winter Conference, at State Action for Educational Leadership Project (SAELP) events throughout the year, and via online meetings. Superintendents in their first or second years and principals in their first year are eligible to participate.

An ODE grant will cover a portion of the  costs, allowing participants to be involved in these conferences and events at reduced rates.

"This program will allow participants to learn from their more experienced counterparts, collaborate with peers and develop career-enhancing relationships," Cameron said.  "COSA is committed to expanding our ability to serve and support new administrators, and we appreciate ODE's partnership as we take this exciting first step toward fulfilling that commitment."

COSA will notify its members about the program, but superintendents and principals who are new to their positions are encouraged to participate.  To sign up for the program, or to get more information, e-mail Colin Cameron.  Watch this Website for more information in the coming days and weeks.
