COSA’s Superintendents Leadership Institute for new and new-to-Oregon superintendents will kick off its 2010-11 program on July 29, 2010 with a welcome and fiscal update from Executive Director Kent Hunsaker, followed by a session on Building Strong Relationships With Your Board and Administrative Team, presented by Maryalice Russell, Superintendent, McMinnville SD, and  Rob Hess, Superintendent, Lebanon Community SD.

Other topics planned for this year’s workshops are Student Achievement and Instructional Leadership, Alignment of Resources, Communication and Trust Building, Public Relations, Management of Personnel, Goal Setting, and Legal and Ethical Decision Making.  In addition to July 29, Institute participants will meet October 14-15 in Salem (in conjunction with an Off The Record meeting), December 2 in Eugene (Law Conference), January 28 at Salishan (Winter Conference), and April 22 (Off The Record meeting).  Institute participants attend these events at no additional cost.  Register today: Year 1 participants - Year 2 participants.

Superintendents participating in the COSA Institute may register for four Graduate Credits toward the Continuing Administrators License (CAL) through Portland State University.  The COSA Superintendents Leadership Institute hours may be applied to the field experience hours required for the CAL.

Participants in the 2009-10 COSA Superintendents Leadership Institute rated the overall value of the workshops as excellent and cited networking opportunities, useful management tools, and pertinent, current content as particularly helpful to new Oregon superintendents.
