K-8 schools the focus of symposium Print E-mail
Are you curious about K-8 schools and how they work? Have you recently transitioned to an existing K-8 school, or are you thinking about creating one? Are you a K-8 administrator who would like to develop a network of job-alike colleagues? Then COSA’s K-8 Symposium, set for May 25 at the Eugene Hilton, is for you. This conference has been organized by K-8 principals for their colleagues.  Its main goal is to provide support for those who have recently moved or are moving into K-8 schools, and those who, due to isolation, would like to establish relationships with colleagues.  The symposium will also provide central office administrators in districts considering the establishment of K-8 schools an opportunity to gain a clear understanding of day-to-day issues.

K-8 schools aren’t new, of course.  Oregon has had K-8 schools in one form or another since the beginning of this state’s public education system.  Recently, however, some Oregon districts have moved to reinstate the K-8 model as an alternative to the K-5, 6-8 model.  Additionally, a number of districts have continued with the K-8 organization, either out of preference to the middle school or due to size limitations within their districts.

This conference is designed for administrators in K-8 schools, those who are transitioning to an existing K-8 school, and district administrators who are interested in how this model is working in districts around the state.  Principals may bring teacher leaders from their schools to this event.  Registration for teachers accompanied by a COSA member will be at the member rate.

The schedule for the day includes registration and continental breakfast from 8-9 a.m., with adjournment at 3:30 p.m.
