mary-apple It took the Union-Baker ESD Board two hours to begin and end its search for a new superintedent.

The board named Mary Apple, the Union-Baker ESD special education director, the next superintedent to replace Jack Adams, who is leaving to become superintendent of the North Santiam School District in Stayton.

Apple has been special education director since 2000. She will keep that position and wear both hats.

The selection of Apple came with Adams' strong support. "I'd walk through hell for this person," he told the board and audience.

She worked in the Baker 5J School District for 25 years before joining the ESD. She taught grade school for 20 years and then served as the principal of Brooklyn Elementary School for five years.
