New Superintendents' Leadership Seminar begins August 22 Print E-mail

COSA’s 2007-08 New Superintendents' Leadership Seminar series begins August 22 in Salem.  New superintendents who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact COSA Deputy Director of Professional Development Sue Roessler.

This year-long seminar will support “new" or "new to Oregon” superintendents and will include presentations from well-respected and experienced superintendents as well as other education leaders from partner agencies including the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA), the Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC.  Content will be aligned with the Oregon Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (OPSEL) and will be determined both by veteran superintendents and participant need and interest.

During the August session, COSA Executive Director Kent Hunsaker will focus on fiscal and budget issues, Silver Falls Superintendent Craig Roessler will present on "Working With Your Board," and representatives from OSBA will talk about the collective bargaining process and good communication.

The second seminar on the morning of September 28 will focus on the topic, "The Superintendent as the Instructional Leader." This session will be held before the regularly scheduled "Off the Record" meeting at the Salem Conference Center.

Emails have been sent to all Oregon superintendents about this opportunity.  If you are interested or if you know of a “new" or "new to Oregon” superintendent that may not have received this information, please email suer@cosa.k12.or.us.  There will be no cost for this seminar and graduate credit will be available.
