nancy-goldenRecognized by her colleagues from around the state as one who inspires and leads, Nancy Golden, superintendent of the Springfield School District, has been selected to receive the 2006 Bev Gladder Mentorship Award. The award honors those in educational administration who lend support and knowledge to other colleagues in administration.  Although 17 worthy candidates were nominated in Oregon, Golden, who has been Springfield's superintendent since 2003, had strong suport from the many people she has touched during her career. Prior to her superintendency, she was the Director of Administrative Licensure for the University of Oregon, and the administrative licensure representative and liaison to the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.  During that time she taught and directed new and aspiring administrators throughout Oregon.  She received an award for leadership in 2004-05 from the university for her outstanding contributions to the field of educational leadership.

She began her career as an elementary teacher in 1975, then went on to earn a masters degree in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction.  Throughout her varied career in education, some things have remained constant: her visionary and collaborative leadership style, and her commitment to serve others.

Dan Jamison, superintendent of the Sherwood School District, was a novice elementary principal when he worked with her in the Albany Schoold District, where she was deputy superintendent from 1993-1997.  He states, "She simply makes all of us better.  All other considerations aside, this is what our profession should aspire to in mentorship.  I humbly suggest that Nancy Golden personifies the highest ideals of the Bev Gladder Mentorship Award."

Golden will receive the award at the COSA Conference in Seaside June 21-23.
