Two COSA Principals Academies will take place over five days this summer and fall.  The academies offer practicing, new and aspiring principals a professional development experience that is both practical and inspiring – and of real benefit to participants and their schools.

The COSA New Principals Academy

Designed for new and aspiring principals, this five-day academy begins with a July 16-18 session at Linfield College, and continues October 20-21 at the OESPA/OASSA Principals Conference in Sunriver.  Support will be provided to participants throughout the year as they develop the self-knowledge that informs able leadership.

At Linfield, participants will focus on the challenges facing new school leaders, with the help of a faculty of successful Oregon principals.  Academy modules are designed to meet the needs of new principals and to meet Oregon standards.  Faculty will engage participants in research-based leadership learning on topics such as: Leadership – Assessment and the Art of Change; Create and Utilize Accountability Systems; Develop a Common Mission and Vision for Instructional Practice; Develop a Culture that Ensures Equity; Plan for Opening of School Events; and many more.

At Sunriver, participants will engage in follow-up sessions as well as the conference sessions, which include “The Principal and Professional Learning Communities” with Bob Eaker, and “10 Things Excellent Principals Do” with Todd Whitaker.

Additional web learning opportunities will also be available throughout the year to enhance the experience of new and aspiring principals.

Registration is $750 and includes lodging, meals and materials at Linfield, as well as registration for the Principals Conference at Sunriver.  Graduate level credit is available onsite with registration.
