'World Class' Norfolk Public Schools highlight Winter Conference Print E-mail

School district leaders from throughout Oregon have the opportunity to learn from the remarkable success story of the Norfolk, Va., Public Schools at the OACOA/OASE Winter Conference, January 29-30, at Salishan.  A team from Norfolk will be on hand to share their “Journey to World Class” via a keynote and breakout sessions.  Register for the conference today.

The Winter Conference begins with a pre-conference on Thursday, January 28.  The pre-conference includes an “Off The Record” meeting for superintendents – a meeting that is expected to have special importance because it comes immediately after the January 26 election, and just before the special legislative session in February.  The conference’s Presidents Reception follows the meeting.  Get the conference schedule.

The main conference begins Friday, January 29, with Norfolk Public Schools as the focus of the morning keynote and breakout sessions.  The team from Norfolk will share best-practice successes such as, “Habits of Literacy,” “Eliminating the Achievement Gap,” and “Exceeding Local, State and International Standards.”  That afternoon, the keynote address will be delivered by Nurture Shock: New Thinking About Children author Ashley Merryman.  Her address will be followed by breakout sessions featuring Oregon best practices around literacy, teaming, data and more.

Also on Friday, OASBO will provide a daylong session for business officials.  On Saturday, January 30, Nancy Hungerford will spend the morning with attendees on the topic, “Finding Options: Legal, Labor Relations and Public Relations in a Team of Downsizing.”

Special – and very affordable – conference room rates are available by calling Salishan at 1-800-452-2300 or by making reservations online using this rate code: COSA2010.
